[Handwritten addition: Dick—names—“Bigun”]

Thank you Eddie.

[Handwritten addition: Jess Latham—one of MSA first Div-big stockholder]

Just a comment about the local situation. [Text stricken: You will see it on TV, newspaper, etc. Key day today. (City Commission vote—explain)]

[Handwritten addition: Meeting today is 3:00 p.m. Attend—the commission needs to hear from you.]
You all know Amarillo has been called a “Big Truck Stop.” Someone made the comment that Amarillo is “Like living on the Moon.”

Well, I should know about everything there is to know about Amarillo. I have lived here 44 years. It’s a great place - well, it would be if the City Commission would stop suing me. (Explain—PNA, etc.)

I would like to speak for a moment about leadership - don’t just take what’s offered when it comes to candidates [Handwritten addition: for public office] Go out and get the best — we are inclined to take whoever wants to run.

Local leadership is so important. We had a Commissioner [Text stricken: that] yesterday said that perhaps the $100 million lawsuit could be worth $200 million.

This is the same rocket scientist who when we offered 200 jobs, said jobs were not important.

[Handwritten addition: Clear choice—Those that want Amarillo ahead—those who don’t!]

Leaders like these we don’t need—Amarillo deserves better.

[Handwritten addition: I want to go to something a little more pleasant—I want to talk about MSA.]

Mesa story:
—$2,500 in 1956, largest independent today

[Handwritten addition: Compare —Boeing etc.]
—$87 mm annually, 355 employees

[Handwritten addition: Multiplyer—]

Mesa stresses:
—Employees work for shareholders
—Employee ownership [Handwritten addition: 95%]
—Fitness [Handwritten addition: —one of the first]
—Competition
—Community involvement [Handwritten addition: criticized by one of the Comm. Last wk.]

Mesa operations. . .really very simple:
—Interests in 5,000 oil & gas wells. . .12 states, offshore and in Canada [Handwritten addition: prod. from 250 gas fields Energas sale 10% of our revenues.]
—Reserves. . .2.5 Tcf, about 80% gas
—Future of industry & Mesa. . .natural gas, not oil
—Gas is clean, abundant. . .will sell at premium ($5) by 1995
—$3-gas in late ’89
—No exploration until $10-gas
—I’ll never see 2000 rigs again
